Zero DP vs Low DP: Which Car Promo Is Right for You?
By Richard Cuagdan, Car Sales Executive ·
Many promos give you two choices on the same unit: Zero DP, where you pay no down payment, or a low-DP option where you pay a modest amount upfront in exchange for a lower monthly.
The trade-off in one sentence
Zero DP keeps your cash in your pocket today; a down payment shrinks the loan, so every monthly payment for the next five years is smaller. Because you borrow less, you also pay less in total over the term, often by more than the down payment itself.
To see the exact Zero DP and low-DP figures for a specific unit this month, see the current promos or run the budget calculator.
When Zero DP makes sense
- You need a car now but want to keep your savings intact as an emergency fund.
- Your monthly income comfortably covers the higher amortization.
- You'd rather put spare cash into your business or other priorities.
When low DP makes sense
- You have savings set aside and still keep an emergency buffer after paying the DP.
- A lower monthly gives you more breathing room for fuel and maintenance.
- You want to pay less in total over the life of the loan.
How to decide
Start with the monthly you can sustain for five years, not just this year. Then ask whether the down payment would leave you without a safety net. If both options fit, the low-DP option usually costs less overall. The calculator shows both side by side for your budget.
